A panel of Court of Appeal judges in Lagos today set aside the N25 million compensatory damages earlier awarded Lagos comedian, Babatunde Omidina " Baba Suwe " over a prolonged detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) last year.

In the ruling, the Court of Appeal re-affirmed the right of the NDLEA to investigate, arrest, detain and prosecute drug suspects as long as the agency acts within the law.

 The court said the NDLEA had not violated Mr. Omidina's rights because it sought and got court orders from the federal high court to keep him in custody after the arrested him on the suspicion that he had ingested hard drugs.

 The Court of Appeal came down heavily on the Lagos High court judge that awarded the damages against the NDLEA, describing the decision as oppressive and burdensome to an agency of government carrying out its statutory duties.

 Baba Suwe's attorneys led by civil rights activist, Bamidele Aturu,  has vowed to take the matter before the Supreme Court.

According to sources, 61years old Ogundaisi who underwent a hernia operation few months back, got the spinal injury from a fall on concrete slab in Lagos. After the incident, Ogundaisi said he could no longer stand up or walk.

“I still have other health challenges, particularly in the spine, which has made it impossible for me to stand up or walk. That is the major issue for now. Until that is resolved, my standing or my walking normally cannot be totally achieved,” he told National Mirror months back.

“I was made to go through series of tests, including what they call MRI at LUTH. The MRI itself is not conclusive; it just raises the suspicion that there is a tumour, but what kind of tumour? They couldn’t decide.

If this operation is not done quickly, the illness may well become terminal. There is a tumour in my leg nerves and the safe removal of this tumour and correction of my spinal injury is the reason it has become necessary to travel abroad,” he stated.

JBB exclusively learnt that veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu, who cerebrated 48^th birthday two weeks ago has relocated to Asaba, Delta state temporarily. According to sources, the actress did not move to Asaba for pleasure, rather her quest for more movie jobs made her move to the city where almost all the Nollywood movies are produced in recent times.

JBB gathered that the filmmaker who hit the limelight with the movie entitled, Glamour Girls has moved her important belongings, which includes her car to Asaba. She was really prepared for her new base, as she was said to have gotten a flat for herself in the city to avoid living from one hotel to the other.

Sources equally disclosed that the light skin mother still retains her Lagos home. This is because her children are in Lagos, while she is struggling for their survival in Asaba. Ngozi Ezeonu is said to be one of the busiest actresses in Asaba now, as is booked by producers from now to ending of the year.

Such a sad story to report but it will definitely end well in Jesus name...Amen. Nwanchukwu Ozioko, popularly known as Vast from the popular singing group, Bracket, has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of cancer of the blood. (Please Google it)

The singer was diagnosed in February this year after suffering serious body pains, headaches, non stop coughing, loss of weight and weakness while in Paris for a show. He flew to London where a test conducted determined he had cancer. Vast has been receiving treatment at the Wellington Hospital in the UK since February and I hear he's responding very well to treatment. He has undergone 4 cycles of chemotherapy with each cycle costing about N1.4million. He will do a few more before returning to Nigeria next month.

The sad part I hear from sources close to the singer is that he actually went to a hospital in Nigeria late last year when he started losing weight and feeling weak. They conducted a test on him but it took them forever to come back with the test result. Over three months actually. By then the cancer had spread to his liver.
